It was a game with two disappointed teams. Czech Republic started better and had more ball possession. An amazing shot by Martina Capkova took the Czechs to a 1-0 lead at 2:40.
In the second period Switzerland found a new fighting spirit. Then Switzerland scored three goals in one minute. The goals were scored by Flurina Marti, Seraina Ulber and Nina Bärtschi. Switzerland streched the lead with one more goal at the end of the second period. Switzerland led 4-0.
In the third period Switzerland started sharp and scored by Margrit Scheidegger. Czech republic didn´t surrender but started to fight for a win. Czech scored two power play goals in a row. At 50:31 the Czechs narrowed the lead by Krupnova and the numbers were 5-4 for the Swiss. The last ten minutes the Czechs attacked hard, had couple of good scoring chances but didn´t succeed to score an equalizing goal. Switzerland won the bronze with numbers 5-4.
Seraina Ulber was really happy after the game.
- We didn´t start so well but in second period, when we played great for 8 minutes we decided the game. It was clear that Czech would come back but we tried to go against and tried to make more goals. At the end we started to be little nervous but we did enough.
Ulber said that it wasn´t hard to get motived to play after yesterday’s semi-final.
- You always know if you lose the semi-final you have to be ready some hours later.
- We played a good game yesterday. But frankly we were not the favorite for the gold medal. Against Finland we played a good game. We could have won that game. We wanted to win a medal and we did. We have to play hard to beat Sweden and Finland in the future, Ulber said.
