Singapore and the Netherlands played a tight and tough game on Tuesday evening.
The Netherlands took control from the beginning but Singapore scored the only goal in the first period in 12:50. The second period was dominated by the Netherlands. They scored three goals and took the lead with numbers 3-1.
In the third period both teams had a couple of scoring chances and one goal was scored in both ends. Four minutes before final whistle Singapore narrowed the lead to 4-3. It was huge mistake by the Netherlands defense and Ruri Narita Omar had an easy task to shoot ball in the net. Singapore pushed hard and tried to even the game. They took the goalkeeper out of the goal for the last two minutes, but no more goals. The Netherlands took the first victory in this tournament with 4-3
Kiki Spoelstra scored the important first goal for the Netherlands.
- Normally when we get down in the beginning we give up a bit but today we just kept pushing and pushing and I was happy to score and help the team. I played my best game in this tournament, Spoelstra smiled.
- I think we played great. We dominate the game, but had some bad luck shot in a pole and so. We could have done better but maybe we saved it to play against USA.
On Thursday morning the Netherlands will play again against USA. USA won the first game against the Netherlands 7-4.
- It was a poor game. We dominated that game as well but we were unlucky. Now we are gonna take a revenge and will beat USA, Spoeltra promised.
Joscelin Kee scored the first goal of the game and assisted two. She was disappointed because of the loss.
- I´m sad but we tried our best and I´m proud of my team mates. We really wanted to beat the Netherlands and we wanted to fight for the 13th place. It´s pity we didn´t get more from this game, said Kee.
On Thursday Singapore will play against Japan
for place 15th.
