Germany was able to snatch a point from Latvia despite a lousy start. Franziska Kuhlmann´s three goals lifted the Germans from 0-3 to a 3-3 tie.
The first period of the afternoon game belonged to Latvia. Evelina Garbare who had a strong match scored twice for her team and Evita Rudzite made it 3-0 at 13.07 in the first period.
Franziska Kuhlmann had missed a penalty shot in the first period but it was her who got Germany´s opener in the middle of the second period. Germany played six against five for quite a while during a delayed penalty until Kuhlmann scored off Pauline Baumgarten´s long pass. At the final minute of the period, Germany got a power play and Kuhlmann got her second off a loose ball from in front of the net.
The final goal of the game, too, was scored on a power play by familiar names. Pauline Baumgarten got the ball into the slot where Kuhlmann slammed it in from close range, finishing her hat trick.
The teams´ body languages at the final buzzer revealed it was the German team that was celebrating their one point having come back from the verge of defeat.
