Finland took an important victory when they beat Switzerland with 6-4 in Group A´s top game. Alisa Pöllänen was the hero of the hosts scoring a hat trick.
Switzerland entered the game well prepared and took the lead twice with Michelle Wiki scoring on a breakaway and Seraina Ulber doing the same after Alisa Pöllänen´s equalizer.
The match turned over on the second period when Alisa Pöllänen, Veera Kauppi and Marianne Hannonen were able to score for Finland within less than four minutes. My Kippilä had the chance for one more on a penalty shot but her final move sent the ball flying over the crossbar.
Celine Chalverat´s goal in the beginning of the third electrified the game once more and Corin Rüttimann´s power play goal after Alisa Pöllänen´s third of the night gave Finland no chance to relax. The hosts were able to breathe again when defender Silja Eskelinen sailed in from the far side to lift in her team´s number six in the far top corner behind Monika Schmid.
