The
youngest team met the oldest team in D-group match Slovakia-USA. The Slovakian
age average is 20.15 and USAs is 32.8 years.
In the first period Slovakia had total control over the ball but still in the first intermission it was only 3-2 for Slovakia. Two periods USA fought great, defended well and goalkeeper Brandee Gomez made good saves. Then Slovakia showed how to score goals. Three goals in two minutes in the beginning of the third period were too much for the USA. It was like a ketchup effect and the final result was 15-2.
The best player of the Slovakia was Luciana Kosturiakova with her four goals and an assist.
- Today I´m happier about our team performance than my own goals. Yesterday we were a little bit disappointed, even though we won against Russia. This win will give us self-confidence, for sure.
Kosturiakova gave credits to the hard-fighting opponent.
- USA played really good two periods. In third period they just tried to save some power for the next games.
Kosturiakova is captain and the oldest of the young Slovakian team.
- It has been so already many years that I´m the oldest one. I have to be supportive both in field and outside the field, said 25-years old forwarder.
The best player of USA was Marie Häggström. She scored the second goal for USA.
- We played as good as we can with this team. We improved a lot our defense but it´s very hard to defense 60 minutes. Many of our players are not used to train this much and play so high level day after day, Häggström said after the match.
- Slovakia was better team and that´s it.
