Finland had an impressive start of their WFC 2015, beating Norway with crushing 14-1. The hosts entertained their 2,559 strong home crowd with a string of beautiful goals showing no signs of opening game nervousness.
My Kippilä´s and Nina Rantala´s goals got Finland going early but were followed by quite an opener by Norway. The Norwegians criss-crossed the rink with lightning passes to set it up for Kine Eriksen to tip in by the far post at full speed.
Finland decided their opening game within ten minutes of the second period when they scored no less than six times, making it from 2-1 to 8-1. That was when Norway changed goalies with Charlotte Holt having had enough and Live Fosmark taking her place.
In the final period, the fight for opening points was over but Finland let the audience cheer five more times. Nina Rantala, Ella Alanko and Karoliina Kujala got four points each tonight with Rantala recording 2+2, Alanko 1+3 and Kujala 0+4. Finland´s goalie Jonna Mäkelä only had to stop nine shots.
Two years ago in Ostrava, Finland beat Norway with 5-2 in the quarter-final.
