The Danish and Australian women´s teams might have been playing for 11th place, but the crowd was one of the biggest so far at WFC 2013...and definitely one of the noisiest. With over 2000 floorball fans competing against each other to see who could cheer the loudest, both teams will remember this game for a while. In the end, the strength of the Danish in skill and experience gave them the win, 9-4.

Denmark started the stronger, applying the early pressure to the Australian defence. The pressure paid off at 5:58 when Maria Olausson scored the first goal of the match. The Australians took a while to settle into the match, but their nerves were calmed when they were able to equalise through a goal to Phoebe Hamilton. The remainder of the first period was quite even with both teams having good chances, but in the dying seconds of the period, the Aussie defence opened up and allowed Cecilia di Nardo to run unchallenged directly at goal and with one second on the clock she found the net to give them a 2-1 lead at the first break.

There were five goals in the second period, the first two going to Denmark. With a 4-1 lead Denmark looked like they were going to begin to dominate the match, but the Aussies, who are known for never giving up, got themselves back in the game with two goals, the best of them from a free-hit shot by Fiona Wainwright that found the top of the Danish goal net.  Denmark didn´t let the increased pressure get to them and Olausson scored to again give them the breathing space of a two-goal lead.

The last period had a bit of everything - missed penalty shots, powerplay goals, delayed penalty goals, penalties, 4 v 4 play, injuries, scoring assists for goalkeepers (Denmark´s Ida Christensen) - and, in the end, a win for Denmark and for them a finish of 11th place. Denmark haven´t finished with such a low position since 2003, while Australia have improved their placing from 2011, so mixed feelings perhaps for both teams about their results here.

Denmark´s best scorer Cecilia Di Nardo was not satisfied at all, even though they won their last match:  - We were a bit too nervous in the start of the match. Australia is a fighting team and we were not good enough to play on our best level. Also the whole tournament was not like expected. Our biggest miss was to lose the match against Germany. Now we will try to enjoy the last days here in Ostrava.
