The National School Sports Championships are multi-sport events run by the Korean Ministry of Education every year.

There were 32 different sports in the championship this year and floorball was for the first time included as one of 32 national schools sports. Even though floorball doesn’t have long history in Korea the Ministry of Education recognised floorball as one of representative sports for students in February 2012.

Furthermore, Floorball was ranked the 9th largest sports of 32 sports regarding the number of participants. The floorball tournament was run for two days from 17th to 18th November in the Dae-jin University. There were a total 44 teams participating from 12 different regions with over 850 floorball players. All the teams had to win the sports clubs league run for 7 months in each city by the Metropolitan and Provincial Offices of Education.

An Impressive team came from Je-ju Island which is one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world. They flew to Seoul, capital city, by airplane for 3 hours and took a bus for 3 hours to get to the university. Even though they had such a long journey, they seemed to enjoy playing floorball so much.

- I think floorball is introduced really fast to schools in various cities. It was impressive that teams from small cities performed as well as teams from big cities. I could see that they were really into floorball, Mr. Gun Woong Jo, the official referee from KFF, commented.

There were over 400 spectators cheering for their teams ardently. They enjoyed not only watching floorball games but also watching the Florby’s performance and a demo-game with Korean national team players.

- Hopefully, more and more schools and students play floorball every year so that floorball can be the best sport among those 32 sports, Mr. Hwang Joo Kim, KFF general secretary, said.
