Big battle between Australia and Singapore ends in tie – 02.12.2017

After a disappointing result with Estonia on Friday, Australia wanted to improve their World Championships balance. Although Singapore became the first team to score when Jowie Tan found an empty space in Australia’s net, two Australian goals by Tara Meyer and Vanessa Dwyer turned the score. Then, the game remained quite balanced, with good goal opportunities on both sides, but it was Australia who won the first period.

The game got a bit rough in the second period, with quite a lot of hits on both sides. Firstly, Australia got two goals ahead of Singapore with Amanda Bartrim scoring third Australian goal of the match. Singapore did not want to stay behind and started to keep Australia a bit under pressure. That paid off, when Jill Quek lessened the game, making it 2-3 before the end of the second period.

Things started to get serious in the third period. It started well for the Australian team when Yasmin Skene increased the lead to 2-4. However, that did not last long. Singapore began with a great pressure on and two goals by Syafizah Safii and finally equalized the game. That is when the battle for win started.

When Fiona Cameron scored in the tenth minute of the last period, everything seemed to go well for Australia, securing the first win for them at the Championships. But a last-minute goal by Debbie Poh made the game equal again, making the final score 5-5.
