The first goal of the match was scored really fast, only 30 seconds since the starting whistle. Thailand got ahead with a goal by Sirinan Boonbut. She then added another goal and made it 2-0 for Thailand. Unfortunately for Thailand, Onuma Doungsuda was given a 5-minute penalty for high-sticking. This was a big chance for the USA to turn the score around, which they did. They scored four quick goals (twice Michelle Linhart, Marie Haggstrom, Victoria Lindstrom) to make it 2-4. Before the end of the first period, Thailand managed to cut the score to 3-4 with a goal by Onuma Doungsuda.
The USA proved to be the stronger team in this match, scoring four more goals in the second period. However, Thailand did not come out goal-less as well, Thanaporn Tongkham scored to cut down the score on powerplay.
Thailand came back strong to the third period, trying to equal the game and surprise the USA. They got real close, with three scored goals by Sirinan Boonbut, who scored twice in the end, and Tikhamporn Sakunpithak. Maybe, if Thailand got a few extra minutes, they would have managed to equalize the game. But – the rules are given, sixty minutes and no minute extra, so the final score speaks 9-7 for the USA.
