The last match of Saturday was played by Japan and Denmark. Both of the team were really active straight from the beginning, with a good fast tempo of the game and a lot of one-on-one encounters. We had to wait ten minutes for the first goal, which was scored by Yui Goto, making Japan the first leader. Just three minutes after, the game was equalized with Emma Vistisen scoring. Denmark then managed to turn the score, Klara Fjoder scored.
The match continued to be quite balanced, with good goal opportunities on both sides. In the second period, Denmark got three goals ahead of Japan, with goals by Cecilia Di Nardo and Maria Helander. No more goals were scored in the second period, making the result 4-1 for Denmark before the start of the last period.
Right from the start of the last period, things looked even better for Denmark. In the fifth minute, Cecilia Di Nardo scored her second goal and a few seconds after, Anne Sofie Thaarup added one more. Even after scoring so many goals, Denmark continued to get Japan under pressure and Cecilia Di Nardo scored her third goal, completing hattrick in this game.
Although Japan fought a lot and tried its best, it was not enough and Denmark proceeded to score even more goals, with Klara Fjorder and Laura de Fries founding an empty space in Japan’s net. Eight minutes before the end, Maria Helander made it 10-1. At this moment, Japan could have given up, but at the World Championships, that is a big no-no! Hitomi Sugaya scored to cut Denmark’s lead, making it 10-2. Shortly after that, Denmark scored an own goal and brought Japan a bit closer.
Then, Denmark got back to control the match again and confirmed their win when Simone Jorgensen scored and made it 11-3.
