Marie Häggström has been part of the USA national team since 2011. The 28-year-old forward has played floorball since she was eight years old and at the moment plays in the Swedish club Team Thorengruppen. Her profession is fire fighter.
How does Men’s Floorball and Women’s floorball differ in your country?
- The differences aren’t as big as in other sports in America because a lot of the floorball games in the U.S. are played between teams with mixed players.
How do you practice floorball?
- We have team practice for an hour and a half three times a week and strength training once a week during the season.
How did you become a national team player?
- Because I have dual citizenship and have played in the highest league in Sweden, I naturally found my way to the U.S. national team.
What has been the most peculiar situation that has happened to you during a floorball match?
- An odd situation that happened not during a game but before it was that the gym’s existing locker rooms were under renovation and we had to use temporary locker rooms that were in a separate building. Because of this we had to go outside in the snow in the middle of the winter to get from the locker rooms to the gym wearing our game uniforms and floorball shoes.
How will you prepare for the WFC?
-My own preparation will consist of a lot of games, a lot of team practices and simply getting in the right mindset.
A little obstacle that Team USA faces is that the players live on separate continents, which leads to that we have to do a lot of the preparations ourselves. Besides the training camp we had in February before the WFCQ, we have had another training camp during the fall and will have a week of team preparation in direct connection to the WFC.
