Team Switzerland finished in 2nd place in Group A and reached the semi-finals after winning Norway 7-2. The Scandinavian side started strong with two good chances and better ball control. Kim Nilsson transformed this advantage into a goal after a rebound. At 06:32, the result became 2-0 for Sweden when Rikard Eriksson stroke it strongly into the net. Later in the period, the Swiss team tried to return but all their attempts was stopped by a well-organized Swedish defense.
Sweden started period number two with some offensive play. Despite this fact, Switzerland made one perfect attack that was finished by Nico Scalvinoni. There was a really nervous game in the second period. Both teams did their job well at defense. The Swiss fans invaded Arena Riga this day and they went crazy when Nicola Bischofberger tied it up. Swiss goalie Pascal Meier made 21 saves in the 2nd period which ended with a 2-2 draw.
Switzerland started the third period with a big effort but that was not enough to stop the Swedish offense. Rasmus Enstrom made the result 3-2 when 44:17 was played. Sweden restored their two goal lead after a strong power-play goal by Alexander Carlstrom. The Swedes dominated in the 3rd period and had some attempts to score more goals. Sweden completed their win 7 to 2. There is only one step left for Sweden to win their ninth title. Also Sweden joins Poland, USA and Czech Republic in qualifying for the World Games. Switzerland will fight not just for bronze but also for a ticket to Wroclaw.
