Day 8 of World Championships opened with a fantastic game between Denmark and Estonia. The Scandinavian country won this match 6-5 (2-0, 3-1, 0-4, 1-0).
Denmark had only 13 hours to recover after a hard game against Finland in the quarterfinals. They played well despite the final result 0-7. Estonia had a tied game versus Czech Republic in the middle of the match but in the end lost it 2-8. The Estonians started the first period with more speed and energy. Unfortunately for their supporters, Estonia were not successful with their scoring chances and it was Denmark who opened the score in the middle of the 1st period. Later the Danes did it again and had a 2-0 lead. Mike Trolle Wede was perfect as always at this tournament making 6 saves in the 1st.
An equal match continued in the second period. Denmark were careful with their chances and gained a three goal lead early in the period. Estonia hoped for a come back but the Danes finally broke their opponents by scoring a shorthanded goal. After the fifth conceded goal, Estonian coach replaced goalkeeper Sim Stokkeby to Marek Oige. Estonia finally managed to score a goal when it was too little too late in the second period.
It was seemingly unreal for the Estonians to make a come back in the third period. However early in the 3rd period, Oskar Salm showed great individual skills and made it 2 to 5. Estonia had some more chances in the begining of the 3rd period to cut Denmark´s lead, but they were unlucky with the finishing. Denmark had three penalty calls at the end of the match, so that helped Estonia to cut their lead. Two minutes before the end, it was 4-5 and another drama was underway at this tournament. There was only 4 seconds left to play when the Estonians completed an amazing come back. There was only 32 seconds played in extension time when Denmark scored the game winning goal. After this win, Denmark finishes in TOP 6 for the first time since 2006. Estonia can repeat their best result, if they will win match for the 7th place.
