The last quarterfinal was played this Friday at Arena Riga. Finland in Nordic rivalry defeated Team Denmark 7-0 (1-0, 4-0, 2-0).
Finland and Denmark was unbeaten before at World Championships before this night. The Finnish team won Group A and had three days of rest. The Danish team showed good performance winning Group C and later they made a spectacular come back in the match against Latvia. Finland began this match with good ball possession and thus that provided early goal from Finnish best striker, Peter Kotilainen. The Danes tried to stop Finland´s attacks with disciplined defense and physical play. They had good success there in the first period. The Danish goalkeeper Mike Trolle Wede switched his hero mode on with 5 excellent saves.
Second period started with same fashion. Finland showed why they are one of the favorites. After Jannik Trolle Wede´s terrible mistake, Suomi scored their second goal. The Finns completely dominated during the whole game. A few times they hit the ball against the crossbar. A crucial moment for Team Denmark was Stefan Hedorf´s 5 minute penalty. Finland used the opportunity to score one more goal during that power-play. Denmark´s players were seemingly tired after that penalty and so the Finns managed to score another two goals at the end of the second period.
In the third period both teams decided to conserve their energy for their next matches. When there was precisely 6 minutes played, the Finns got their sixth goal after an incredible combination. At the end of the third period, the Finnish team scored one more goal. Finland earned a huge victory 7 to Norway´s 0.
