Another placement match held today at Olympic Sports Center. Team Poland in a tough game defeated proud Thailand 5-4 (2-0, 1-2, 2-2).
Poland stayed 3rd in Group C, so they were able to play in placement round. Polish team earned huge win against Singapore and were ready to do the same with debutantes from Asian region. Thailand with an assistance from their supporters earned two wins against Singapore and Australia. Poles started strong with early power-play goal. Thais tried to come back with some fast attacks. In equal game Team Poland were more successful and managed to score another goal in the end of the 1st period.
Thailand´s supporters believed that things will be better in the second period. Their hopes realized early in the period, when Pawat Thaidit scored after ricochet from Polish goalkeeper Maciej Bogdanski. Just few minutes later another Poland scored similar goal after deflection. Poland looked better to round out the period, but they can´t transform their advantage to more comfortable result. Moreover in the end of the 2nd period Thailand cut Polish Team´s lead to only one goal.
The third period expected to be more nervous and difficult for both teams. That was a heartbreaking opening of this period for Poland. Unfortunately he had no chance to save after great Wojciech Malajkas´s strike. When there was only 3 minutes left Poland managed to score another one. Thailand experienced one more unlucky game ending and lost it 4 to 5. Thailand finished 14th and they became the best Asian team at this tournament.
