Placement round of World Championships continued with a battle for the 15th place between Australia and Singapore. Australians defeated their opponents 9-3 (1-1, 3-1, 5-1).
Neither of the teams can´t be satisfied with their tournament. Before this match, Australia was the only team at the tournament without any wins. In comparison Singapore defeated team USA, but lost three other matches. Each side was motivated to finish this tournament with positive emotions. Aussies started quickly and took the lead after 28 seconds were played. Singapore played with a passion and was penalized two times. After being good at defense they managed to score an equalizer goal. The first 20 minutes were even. Goalkeepers Vladimir Plocek and Rajiv Makalingam finished first period with 13 saves.
Starting the second period Singaporeans left the USA player Tomas Gartner in front of the net, making it easy for him to score. The Asian team replied rapidly with an excellent one-time strike from Enrico Marican. Later in the second period, Singapore had big offensive game during the power-play. Australia survived and bounced back with a nice goal by David Speldewinde. Aussies had some advantage in the end of the second period and scored again.
Singapore opened period number three with a big pressure. However Team Australia did their job well. Singapore finally managed to score their third goal at 49:15, so that promised another drama at the Olympic Sports Center. Later in the third period, Shaun Frazer restored the two-goal lead for his team. Aussies finished it strong and finally won the match 9-3. Australia earned their first victory and finish the tournament on the 15th place, when Singapore stays on the last place.
