Czech overcomes and wins Estonia to advance to the semi-finals 7-2 (2-2, 4-0, 1-0)
First game of the World Championships quarter finals began between Czech Republic and Estonia, with the Czechs having the field advantage and outplaying Estonia. Czech got the 1st goal of the game and kept pressuring until Estonia got one themselves to tie it up. Mid-way through the 1st period, Czech got back up again but unfortunately for them it didn´t last long as 2:16 later, Estonia tied it up again. Czech kept controlling the game for the reminder of the period.
2nd period as per usual - not much difference. The Czech team came out and kept dominating the game on the Estonian side of the field. A real scoring chance came over three minutes in the period as an Estonian player broke away one on one against the goalie but couldn´t score and then kept having chances despite pressure from opponents. At mid point of the game it was still all tied up at 2-2. In the following minutes, Estonia had to kill off a power play which they did a great job doing even sparking some offense during that time until 19 seconds left in it when Czech finally cracked the net and doubled their lead in a short period of time. Czech kept applying pressure and got another one but not much changed in the 2nd period.
3rd period and just two minutes into the game, Czech Republic scored again making Estonian chances to return into the game much more complicated. Following that both sides struggled to get something going but Czech Republic still has a marginal lead in the 3rd period on the scoreboard and in the rink. There was solid performance from both goalies on the each side of the field, limiting scoring chances to the minimum. With 7:30 left in the game, Czech Republic took a penalty giving Estonian another chance to score but Czech and their pressuring defense wouldn´t allow them to.One more goal from the Czechs to finish the game as they go through to the semi finals.
