Switzerland and Germany met to fight for the final quarter-final spot in group A. One team was clearly better than the other with the Swiss winning 11-3, (5-0, 2-1, 4-2).
Switzerland controlled the game from the get go, scoring a goal and coming out on top early in the first period, having a slight advantage over Germany. Five minutes in and the score was 3-0 already, with the Swiss team stating that they´re the ones willing to push through straight to the quarter-finals. Germany took their timeout at 8:14, and switched out the goalies, Mike Dietz took the place between the goal posts. That seemed to have sparked the German team, as they got rewarded with a power play, however that wasn´t efficient. The German goalie made a couple of great saves to keep his team where they were before he came in.
Second period began with an offensive showdown from Switzerland, while Germany tried to slow down the game and capitalize on the rare opportunities they had. No immediate impact on either sides of the rink, besides the fact that it was quite a one sided affair. Germans got penalized during the play which Swiss team converted on, putting them up by six goals, then scored again on yet another one of their powerplays. Germans got their own man advantage, and they used it to get on board.
Swiss national team came back for the third period prepared and scored a goal thus continuing the dominance. 3:45 into the third period, a German player was thrown over the boards, and stayed down on the ground for a while, but he was able to leave the game on his own. The game opened up a bit in the final ten minutes, but overall Switzerland still had their advantage in the rink and on the scoreboard. Both teams exchanged goals by the end of the period, as Switzerland went through straight to the quarter-finals.
