In the last Group D match Singapore played against Team USA. The Asian team showed good performance and reached their first win 9-5 (3-0, 2-2, 4-3).
The Americans triumphed in group D after two wins against Thailand and Canada. Meanwhile Singapore lost both previous matches being fourth in their group. This game for USA was like a preparation for 1/8 finals. Singapore started strong with couple of good chances. Jenmark Sorreda made it 1-0 and Singapore took the lead first time in the tournament. The American team had some good opportunities to tie the game, but they were unlucky to put the ball accurately in the net. Singaporeans were more careful with their moments and scored two more goals in the first period.
The proud Asian team continued with a big effort in the second period. There was only 24 seconds played when Enrico Marican managed to score goal number four. After next Singapore´s goal, Team USA decided to take off goalkeeper Lee Payne. He finished the match with 4 saves and 5 conceded goals. Later in the second period, USA took control of the game. Alexander Granvald and Alexander Hart were successful with their attempts.
Singapore kept their practice to score goals to start the period. 26 seconds in the third period was enough for Suria R to return the four goal lead to the Singaporeans. Both teams wanted to finish group stage with good emotions, so that was probably the reason why we had many goals in the third. Scoreboard showed 9-5 for Singapore when the match was over. USA advanced to 1/8 final where they will play against Estonia or Germany. Singapore will battle for the 13th place in World Championships.
