Denmark wins a dramatic game against Poland – 05.12.2016

First game of the day three began with an amazing effort from both teams. Although Denmark was controlling the ball more, Poland was the first to get a real chance to score.  A Polish player got a breakaway, but was stopped incorrectly by a Danish player. This resulted in a penalty shot and a two minute power play, but unfortunately for the Polish, neither were successful.  With almost 10 minutes played of the first period, Poland finally cracked the Danish goalie and led the game 1-0. With 13:22 on the clock, Denmark also put their first ball past the Polish goalie, from in front of the net up to the top-shelf to tie things up. For the most part the first sequence of the game looked like target practice for both teams as most of the shots went either wide or over the net.  Denmark walked off with a goal and were thus leading the match 2-1 after first period.

Denmark came to the second period prepared, taking away Poland’s power play to force both sides play with four players. The moment the Danish player Danielsen stepped on the floor after serving his penalty Denmark managed to score, extending their lead by two goals. Poland managed to decrease the score by one, despite of the fact that Denmark was fore checking actively. Poland’s goalie Bogdanski was forced out of the game after hurting his knee,  Jastrzebski had to step in and stop a penalty shot right away and he successfully managed to do it keeping the game close.  Poland kept the game pattern going receiving a late period penalty and the score was 3-2 after the second period.

Final period of the game and Poland came out to kill their penalty to keep the game in their own hands.  Intense game continued in the third period. Nearly eight minutes into the third period, Poland got their chance to equalize the score on power play. Besides the fact that Polish national team had one golden opportunity, they were not effective.  Poland appeared to have taken control of the game at the end of the match but couldn’t find a way to tie the match and therefore lost 4-2 against Denmark who finished the match with a goal with 15 seconds left on the clock.
