Day 2 of world championships ended with a game between Latvia and Czech Republic. After a bad 1st period, the host nation failed to come back and lost it 3-9 (1-6, 1-1, 1-2).
Czech Republic began the tournament with a win against Norway, while Latvia showed good performance against defending champions Sweden. The Czechs opened the scoreline quickly with Jan Jelinek´s goal and then the Latvians replied with a perfect counter attack. During next attack, Jiri Curney disappointed local spectators with another goal. The Latvians had a lot of mistakes during the first period, which made it easier for the Czech Republic to score six goals in first 17 minutes. When the score was 5-1, Janis Salcevics replaced local floorball legend Andis Blinds. Matej Jendrisak earned 1+2 in the first period.
The second period began in the same fashion with Czech Republic outplaying their opponents and with Latvia trying to score their second goal. Tom Ondrusek scored his second goal tonight after 34:42 was played. The Home side made 5245 spectators happy once again in the second period.
The last part of the match started hopefully for the Latvians. After some good chances, Latvian goalkeeper Salcevics stopped Jendrisak´s penalty shot. Unfortunately for the Baltic team, they were not able to score during the power play. Later the hosts continued their tradition of scoring a goal per perioid and made it a 3-8 result. Latvia finished the game with passion that helped to create couple of scoring chances. Despite this fact, Latvia ended with the ninth conceded goal. Czech Republic continues this tournament strong and seemingly well prepared for battle with Sweden.
