AUSTRALIA
The 2016 Australian Men’s Floorball team has a nice mix of experience and youth. There are players competing in their 3rd or 4th tournament while there are also a number of fresh faces to the WFC tournament. The teams results at the AOFC earlier in the year show once again their ability to overcome geographical distance to compete on the world stage. After overcoming Russia in their first pool game in 2014 the team is aiming to build on this at WFC 2016 and push for progression out of the group stages.
Players to watch:
Daniel Gartner: Daniel has been a key member in the Australian U19 side however a great performance at club level saw him make his debut for the men’s side at AOFC and he took the opportunity with both hands. His ability to read the game and set up in attack will make him a favourite with the fans in Latvia.
Tomas Gartner: Like twin brother Daniel, Tomas has also been integral in the U19 campaign. After showing a glimpse of his talents at AOFC expect to see Tomas put his excellent shooting and dribbling skills to good use to create plays that will be a highlight of the tournament.
Jonathan Veron: One of the most experienced players in the national side Jonathan is Australian Floorball’s very own Benjamin Button. With each passing year he continues to progress his game to the next level and this sees him among the leading goal scorers at all national tournaments. With explosive speed and tenacious attack he will have spectators on the edge of their seats each time he takes the court.
