Zurich welcomes Europe´s top teams — 11.04.2014

The next Champions Cup will be played October 1st - 5th 2014, in Zurich, Switzerland. This is the fourth time the CC tournament is played.

The host city of the Champions Cup 2014 is Zurich, the largest city of Switzerland. The tournament will be played at Saalsporthalle, which was built in 1972 and offers space for 2500 spectators. The arena is mainly used for ball sports and was already used for the group stage of the Men’s World Floorball Championships 2012.

- The fourth edition of the Champions Cup in Saalsporthalle in Zurich ends the first cycle of the Champions Cup, which has been a very interesting and important part of the international product offering for the last four years. We are looking forward very good and thrilling games and a very well organised tournament, with the top European club teams in the world, says Mr. Tomas Eriksson, IFF President.

12 teams will participate in the Champions Cup (6 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams). The champions of Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and Czech Republic are seeded. The winners of the EuroFloorball Cup 2013, Lekrings (LAT) men and Nauka-Trevelstroy (RUS) women and two more teams of the host nation will complete the list of participants. The second teams from Switzerland are the Swiss Cup champions, GC Zurich men and Zug United women.

The Champions Cup is organised by the local organising committee of Grasshopper Club Zurich in co-operation with the Swiss Floorball Association and the IFF. Grasshopper Club Zurich has already gained experience in organising international floorball tournaments as the club was one of the local organisers during Men’s WFC 2012.

The planning of the Champions Cup 2014 is ongoing:

Floorball needs a top club competition

The Champions Cup 2014 in Zurich ends the first cycle of the Champions Cup and the continuation of the tournament model has been discussed by the stakeholders.

- The stakeholders of the Champions Cup have during the last year discussed the ways to continue to develop the Champions Cup. All parties agree that floorball needs a top club competition, but at the same time we need to enhance the marketing value of the product and start to get return on investment for running it. The stekholders will still during this spring come with a proposal for how to conduct the Champions Cup in the future, John Liljelund, IFF Secretary General, informs.

The start of the ticket pre-selling is planned for mid-June.
