SPV in the Men´s CC semi-final — 04.10.2012

Wiler-Ersigen desperately needed a victory in order to make it to the semi-finals, but just like yesterday the Swiss team had trouble getting into the game in the first period. Wiler made a comeback from 4-0 to 6-7, but SPV was more effective. The final result was 10-9 to SPV and the tournament is over for Wiler-Ersigen.

When the Wiler players seemed to be sleeping, SPV was definitely not. SPV´s high pressure game, led into great scoring opportunities and the Finnish champion was leading 3-0 early in the match.

SPV´s lead increased to 4-0 on power play when Tuukka Kiviranta could put in a one-timer after a nice pass from Mikko Kohonen.

Christoph Hofbauer, scored the first goal for Wiler-Ersigen on power play and the Swiss woke up. Philipp Fankhauser scored Wiler´s second only one second before the intermission. The score was 4-2 for SPV after the first period.

Hofbauer goals took Wiler-Ersigen into the match

Wiler-Ersigen started the second period with full speed and with only 30 seconds played C. Hofbauer scored his second goal of the match. In 29.42 the other Hofbauer, Matthias, first evened the score to 4-4 and was then able to direct the ball into the goal when he was alone in the slot.

Both teams mmade a lot of mistakes in the defensive zone, which led to a total of eight goals scored in the second period. An exciting 7-7 was the score before the last period.

SPV was the sharper team

Ville Kuusela´s solo performance, when he forced himself in front of the goal, gave SPV the advantage again. Wiler had their chances as well through some really nice combinations, but accuracy was missing.

SPV was also the team with a bit more luck as the 9-7 goal somehow found its way passed the Wiler goalie. Could Wiler make yet another comeback?

Almost. Patrick Mendelin´s long distance shot first reduced the lead and then C. Hofbauer had a chance to tie the game through a penalty shot, but Jarno Ihme made the save. Instead Henri Myllymäki could score SPV´s 10th goal, when SPV played shorthanded.

Matthias Hofbauer scored a hat-trick in 52.05 and only one goal separated the teams again. Wiler played the last minutes wihtout goalie, but Ihme made the decisive saves.

- I have no explanation for the slow starts; maybe we need some time to get used to the tempo here. We had our moments both in this match and in yesterday´s match. We also had a bit of bad luck. In both games we still showed great character by coming back and we also lost to great opponents, Matthias Hofbauer said after the match.

A total of 19 goals were scored in the match, quite unusual?
- We played against a Finnish team and we have a Finnish coach. Both teams play with high tempo and I believe this fast game style is good for floorball development.

Next goal - WFC 2012
- Our team had put a lot of focus on this tournament, but we have to take it as it is. WFC is coming up next and many of our players will play in the national team, so that gives a lot of motivation.
