SC Vitkovice defeats Zug United 9-3 — 01.10.2014Zug United, starting the season with quite a lot of new players, lost its first CC match against Czech champions SC Vitkovice 9-3. Zug started well, but the experience of Vitkovice won through in the end. The Czech team from Vitkovice began the game with a promising opportunity in front of Zug’s goal. But Ljubica Colic, the goalkeeper of the Swiss team, had her hand between the ball and the goal and prevented an early deficit of her team. Two minutes later, in the third minute of the game, Monika Léblová opened the score for the 1:0 lead of the Czech team. Zug tied the game in the 6th minute, before the Czech took over the lead again. It was Zug’s Brigitte Mischler who brought the Swiss team back into the game for the second time. But only a couple of seconds later Vitkovice scored again. And that goal was followed by a powerplay goal, which brought the game to a 4:2 lead for Vitkovice. Plenty of goals for the crowd, but no team yet had the clear dominance in the game. Penalties and tough duels in the second period The second period started out well balanced and was characterized by tough duels close to the boards. As a consequence both teams had powerplay opportunities. During the second half of the period, SC Vitkovice was the team who dominated the game and just seconds before the end of the, Denisa Ratajová scored her first goal of the game and extended the lead to 6:2. The third and last period started, again, with an early goal for the Czechs when Michaela Sponiarová’s wrist shot found its way into the Swiss goal. Although Vitkovice missed two penalty shots in the this period the Czechs cruised to victory in the last minutes of the game. With a full time score of 9:3, Vitkovice started successfully into the tournament whereas Zug needs to improve their performance for the next match against Djurgårdens IF IBF.
